So here are the new eyes I worked on this week.
This is the beginning of the work. I made them with a mold I made for a ball jointed doll I am working on and this was the size for the arms and neck piece. Then I used a nail head to make the first indentations. After that I used a ball head tool to make a second indentation in the middle for the pupil area as I have a hard time doing circles for them. I then baked them in the oven.
Then I used Genenis Heat set paints once they were cooled off (the next day) and mixed different colors to create the eye color. I dried the paint with a heat gun and again let them rest for a day (me too since I am sick). I then tried different techniques to make the black pupil on all of them. Some I had to touch up some I didn't. I again dried it with a heat gun. Then yesterday I got a new set of paint brushes I ordered off of eBay. They are made for painting fingernails but they work fine for the paints and I touched up some colors and added a darker edge around the iris like most eyes have. This morning I used a block nail file to clean up the areas on the outside to make them more even and baked them again. Once they cool completely I will add the resin to the eyes and take pictures of the process as well.
Excellent work. Love your eyes. Where are you buying your nail heads from. And what size nail heads are you using?
ReplyDeleteI use what I have on hand. I will check the size and let you know.
